Just a few weeks ago, NetherRealm Studios announced a new DLC pack for Mortal Kombat 11. The expansion adds tons of new content, including new fighters like Robocop, an expanded story, and Friendships. These fun, lighthearted way to finish off a competitor are a massive tonal shift from the rest of the game, but look great regardless. Today, NetherRealm released a new trailer showing off some of the wacky hijinks your MK11 character can get up to. Check it out below.
Friendships were first introduced back in Mortal Kombat 2 as a response to the public controversy around the first game’s Fatality system. They’ve made appearances in a few other games since then, but have mostly been done away with. However, after their inclusion being teased in Mortal Kombat 2011, they’re finally back in the game. And, if I do say so myself, they look incredible.
I mean, look at how happy Sub-Zero is when he gets to deliver to frozen treats to his foes. If that isn’t the face of a man who has finally found peace after decades of murdering folks, then I don’t know what is. Even Kano is on the fun, hosting a summer BBQ for all the MK pals. It really is some of the best work NetherRealm has ever done. Truly, I don’t see how they could possibly top it.
Of course, they’re going to try with the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath story. While the Friendships and a few other features are coming in a free content update, players will need to purchase the expansion if they want to check out the new story and play with the three new fighters. The base game is available on all four consoles. Meanwhile, Aftermath launches on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 26.
