Geralt of Rivia has come to Monster Hunter: World in order to help hunt down a new “otherworldly” creature in the New World.
As part of Update 6.0 on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, players can take on the role of Geralt of Rivia once again, much like they have in Soulcalibur VI already. Doug Cockle is even back to voice the famous grumpy dad from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (as well as the other games and source material book series).
Geralt appears in the New World via a portal but he isn’t the only inhabitant of the Continent to make their way to Monster Hunter: World. An ancient Leshen, one of the cooler monster designs in The Witcher 3, has also made its way here and Geralt must team up with others in order to track it and bring it down. Ciri even makes an appearance at the end of the trailer, as her ability to travel through space and time lets her potentially cross over into just about anything, maybe even Cyberpunk 2077, the next CD Projeckt Red game.
The first part of this collaboration puts you in Geralt’s boots and gives you all-new mysteries to solve and gear to craft with the Special Assignment “Contract: Trouble in the Ancient Forest”. After you complete the assignment, the Geralt α full armor set will be available for crafting, as well as the Sword & Shieldweapon Witcher’s Silver Sword for your Hunter. And for your Palico, the Nekker α full armor set and Cursed Staff α will show up in the Smithy’s list.
Those who complete the first assignment can then take on the second one, a limited time event that will occur from February 15 to March 1, 2019: Contract: Woodland Spirit. This will be set for HR50+ hunters and open to multiplayer, allowing multiple players to join together to take down the Leshen creature. Those who overcome it will be rewarded with the Ciri α full armor set and some dual blades that match.
Geralt will have access to his silver sword for monsters, as well as his sign abilities like Quen and Igni to protect and attack respectively. Monster Hunter: World is the perfect collaboration for professional monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, whose status as a Witcher allows him heightened senses and a long life of accumulating knowledge on tracking and taking advantage of the weaknesses of monsters. This collaboration was announced alongside the DLC Iceborne which is coming to Monster Hunter: World in Q3 of 2019.
Capcom has been doing quite well for itself, being named top publisher of 2018 by Metacritic and having Monster Hunter: World, Mega Man 11, and Onimusha: Warlords sell strongly. Somehow, a movie based on Monster Hunter and starring also-videogame-movie-Resident–Evil-actress Milla Jovovich will be releasing September 2020.
