Revealed during the IGN Summer of Gaming event, Metal: Hellsinger is a rhythm first-person shooter that will launch for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
Developed by Sweedish indie studio The Outsiders, Metal: Hellsinger looks to be a Doom-like FPS with a musical twist: you will have shoot hell demons to the beat of metal music. You can check out the trailer above for some rhythmic violence.
According to IGN, the story of Metal: Hellsinger‘s story will be narrated by the illustrious Troy Baker, whose most recent role is in The Last of Us Part II. You will play as The Unknown, a demon/human hybrid as you fight through literal Hell with a variety of weapons to defeat The Red Judge. The rhythmic shooter is directed by David Goldfarb who has worked on popular games Pay Day 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Metal: Hellsinger will have more than just its story mode. It will also feature a challenge mode for those who like chasing high scores and getting to the top of leaderboards.
For all the metalheads out there, the game will feature vocal performances from well-known metal bands. The ones listed below are the musicians revealed, but the “and more” in the trailer alludes to other musicians joining the game. Here are all the confirmed vocalists lending their voices to Metal: Hellsinger:
- Matt Heafy of Trivium
- Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquility
- Björn Strid of Soilwork
- Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy
Personally, this is, very much, a game catered to my interests. Doom is one of my favorite games of all time, and I am definitely a fan of metal music. Although my interests lean more towards doom and stoner metal, I am still excited to see musicians from well-known metal bands will be lending their talents to the game’s music. If I could choose two vocalists I’d like to see come to the game, it would be Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth and Troy Sanders of Mastodon.
