Surprise, surprise: the upcoming Nintendo Labo kit that comes with a steering wheel will be compatible with Nintendo’s immensely popular racing game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Owners of the new kit will be able to use the Car, Pedal, and Key Toy-Con to control their kart.
This is a natural next step for the cardboard peripherals, with the Toy-Con Motorbike accessory from the Variety Pack also being supported in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe through a patch. Players will surely find using a replica steering wheel more intuitive than say, pretending your tiny Joy-Con controller is one.
The Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit will also allow players to simulate piloting an airplane or operating a submarine—but all should probably expect Mario Kart to just stick with the steering wheel, despite land and sea portions being included in the game’s race tracks.
Even more than a year than its release, which itself is years after its original Wii U release, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still enjoying plenty of support, with the additions of Toy-Con support and new content inspired by games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available to play on Nintendo Switch, with the Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit releasing on September 14.
