The first episode of Dontnod and Square Enix’s Life is Strange 2 arrived on September 27, introducing us to the story of brothers Sean and Daniel. Releasing new episodes every two months or so is a fairly standard practice for episodic games, and is a release interval that the original Life is Strange abided by. As you can probably tell, it has been over two months since Episode 1: Roads’ release and we still haven’t heard much about Life is Strange: Episode 2.
After over two months of waiting, Dontnod finally gave an update on the status of Life is Strange: Episode 2’s development on the game’s official Tumblr blog. In the post, the developers revealed that the second episode of Life is Strange 2 won’t be hitting PC, PS4, or Xbox One until January 2019.
The developers cited their passion and “benchmark of quality” as the reason for this nearly fourth month gap between Life is Strange 2 episodes. The episodic game is described as a project that’s “close to all of our hearts and one for which we do not want to rush development.” Considering the buggy and lackluster launches we’ve seen in the last month alone, this was probably the best decision that Dontnod and Square Enix could have made.
Ultimately, Dontnod believes this gap between episode will “ensure that we will be in a position to release something that we are proud of and that you will enjoy and remember forever.” Even with the delay, we did learn the episode title and when we will be hearing more details about it.
The post ends by revealing that the episode’s official title is Life is Strange 2 – Episode 2: Rules and stating that more about the episode will be shown off sometime in mid-December. It remains to be seen if this four month gap between episodes will become standard for Life is Strange 2 or if this is just and isolated case for Episode 2: Rules.
