Koei Tecmo’s Attack on Titan 2 will come for Nintendo Switch on top of PS4, Xbox One and PC. In order to learn why the publisher opted to support the hybrid console with this new game, we had a chat with Koei Tecmo President and Chief Operating Officer Hisashi Koinuma, and Omega Force Manager Hideo Suzuki at Paris Games Week.
Koinuma-san explained that one big challenge of creating games related to popular anime series is making them accessible to as many fans as possible. Koei Tecmo researched the platforms on the market that were available within the target audience and made an effort to reach the broadest userbase they could. That’s why they decided on PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Switch (and PS Vita only for Japan).
Specifically, on the Switch version, the development has already started, and the game is already up and running on the console.
In order to get a better sense of what the Switch port will look like (since no footage has been shown so far), we asked whether it’ll be closer to the PS4 version or the PS Vita version visually. In response, we received a curveball from Suzuki-san, who explained that the game on Nintendo Switch is “more comparable to the PS3 version” of the original Attack on Titan.
It’s worth mentioning that this doesn’t mean that it’ll look exactly like the first game on PS3, as we’re talking about different titles running on different consoles. Yet, to give you an idea, you can watch some gameplay of Attack on Titan running on PS3 (courtesy of YouTube user bluez.) at the bottom of the post.
About the PS Vita version, we also, unfortunately, received the confirmation that we won’t get it in the west.
If you’re interested in the PS4 version, you can check out how that one runs in the first gameplay, and more which we filmed off the screen of a demo station at Paris Games Week.
