Originally released in 2012, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning over the years has had a devoted following as a fan-favorite RPG that didn’t get the love it deserved when it first released. While the game initially was a commercial failure, its reputation has grown over the years, seemingly enough that the game will be making a comeback later this year on current-gen systems through a remastered release.
In a listing on the Microsoft Store, an apparent re-release of the game seems to be imminent for later this year called Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. While not formally announced yet, the remastered version of the game appears to be published by THQ Nordic (who purchased the rights to the franchise in 2018) and is being developed by Kaiko. The listing also confirms that the remaster is set to release on August 11, 2020 for Xbox One, though it hasn’t been confirmed yet if the remaster will appear on other platforms.
According to the Microsoft Store page, Re-Reckoning will update the original Kingdoms of Amalur with fully-remastered visuals and audio alongside gameplay enhancements and improvements. Additionally, Re-Reckoning will also feature all of the DLC released for the original game, including the “Teeth of Naros” and “Legend of Dead Kel” DLC add-ons. Several screenshots from the upcoming remaster have also made their way online, which you can check out below, along with what seems to be the new key art:
Presumably, this was an announcement planned by THQ Nordic that seemed to have gone up earlier than planned. However, for those that originally played the game on PS3 and Xbox 360, it should still be an exciting announcement that the underrated RPG will be returning for a new generation to discover it.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is expected to arrive on August 11, 2020. Stay tuned for more official information on the upcoming remaster once it happens.
