Former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime revealed earlier this year that Kanye West approached him at an E3 “many years ago” in hopes of collaborating with the company on making a game. First reported by Nintendo Everything, this information came from Fils-Aime’s podcast with gaming journalist Harold Goldberg, Talking Games With Reggie and Harold.
According to the episode, West came to the Nintendo booth at E3 and spent some time talking with Shigeru Miyamoto and requested to meet with Fils-Aime. The two met together along with West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, to talk about a potential collaboration.
Fils-Aime said:
“Part of it was talking about what he was up to, he was experimenting with a piece of video game content; he wanted reactions to it. He comes out and says, ‘I want to work with Nintendo.’ We had so many different projects at Nintendo going on, the possibility of doing something with Kanye just wasn’t there, and so I had to find a way to politely decline this opportunity to work with him. I told him, ‘Kanye, you don’t want to work with us because we’re tough, we’re hard. All we do is push for the very best content. We would not be the type of partner you would want to work with.’ And he looks at me and says, ‘Reggie, you’re exactly the type of partner I want because of that reason!’ It’s like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”
As of right now, it doesn’t seem like a Nintendo-Kanye game is coming any time soon.

Talking Games With Reggie and Harold is a series of seven “fundraising podcasts” for the non-profit organization New York Videogame Critics Circle. Fils-Aime is on the board of directors for the organization and Goldberg is its president. According to its donation page, the NYVCC is currently “raising funds to bring games and games writing courses to high school students in homeless shelters in New York City.”
