Hitman 3 launched earlier this week, and it marks the final game in the assassination trilogy, however not the final game in the franchise. But earlier this week, users started to share images from one of the game’s many locations, and specifically in the Dubai location, users had noticed bad Arabic being plastered over signs. The developer is aware of the issue and is looking into fixing it.
Rami Ismail shared a tweet from Omar Samir that shows Agent 47 looking at some in-game signage that has both Arabic and English writing for locations in the level. However, it’s pointed out by many users that the Arabic words aren’t presented correctly.
The issue being that the Arabic text is written left-to-right when it should in fact be written from right-to-left, additionally the letters aren’t linked. for more information on how Arabic should be written, Rami has an informative website that explains it far more clearly.
I’m not exaggerating when I say this kind of bad Arabic makes you look a disrespectful fool in front of millions of gamers https://t.co/LSnuw5aG1t

Computers weren’t made for Arabic, and in-code everything is always left-to-right. There’s an invisible character called a RTL-mark that lets a computer know that what follows should be right to left. Sadly, copy-pasting doesn’t include that character, so it gets parsed as LTR.

After catching wind of this, Morten Elgarrd a UI designer at IO Interactive responded to Rami to state that this has been marked as a P2 bug at the studio. Morten explains how a P1 bug is for bugs that cause hard crashes, or the game refuses to run.
Yeah, its been marked as a P2 bug in our system. For reference a P1 bug means the game won’t run/is a hard crash.

Morten also notes that “it’s clear that its something people who know Arabic would find very jarring.” The studio as such will likely push a fix for this out with a patch as soon as possible. The game’s Dubai level takes place at the start of the game.
Hitman 3 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Stadia, and Nintendo Switch. You can read our review on it here.
