During yesterday’s The Future of Gaming showcase, indie developer KO_OP announced Goodbye Volcano High for the PlayStation 5.
This narrative-driven game follows Fang, an 18-year-old dinosaur who’s band goes viral as she worries about what’ll happen after graduating high school. It features multiple storylines that lead to different endings you can unlock, alongside musical mini-games to experience. Additionally, among the game’s voice actors is Lachlan Watson from Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
“Our company is a co-op in which all the voices matter. The team working on GVH is about ten people, all coming from diverse backgrounds,” says Studio Director Saleem Dabbous in a press release. “Making a queer game about a non-binary main character is hugely important to us. Partnering with PlayStation has given us the opportunity to build something of incredible production value. Everything you see in this first trailer was taken directly from the game and is playable.”
Goodbye Volcano High is just one of several games shown off during PlayStation’s event yesterday. Other notable game announcements include Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Resident Evil VIII: Village, and Horizon: Forbidden West. Smaller titles were also shown off including Bugsnax, Solar Ash, and Jett: The Far Shore. Additionally, we finally know what the PlayStation 5 looks like.
“This type of game is definitely a first for KO_OP,” says Art Director Lucie Viatge. “We are creating a detailed and colorful art style that resembles an animated movie, with gorgeous hand-painted backgrounds and expressive characters that come together to create a game where every shot feels special. Our goal with the art is to bring you close to what the characters are experiencing, and allow their emotions to really shine through. We’ve been building an incredible team of artists for the project, and it’s been really amazing to bring our vision to life.”
Goodbye Volcano High launches in 2021 on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. If you’re interested, you can watch the game’s announcement trailer below.
