In-development indie horror title Beware just recently dropped a playable demo that you (yes, you) can download here. Right now!
Feel the horror of driving…yes, driving. Beware is an indie horror title with an interesting gimmick: you’re in a car. Much like pixel-horror Dead End Road or Stephen King’s Christine, time has proven that cars can be pretty scary, and Beware hopes to capitalize on that untapped car-horror market with its new demo.
While still early in development, the game boasts some well-rendered graphics as fog rolls across the highway and your headlights catch on something in the distance. The car engine sound could probably use some work, but for the most part, much of the ambient noise appears to be well-placed and properly atmospheric. The demo has only one mission so far where you are tasked with following a mysterious figure amidst the treeline as spooky happenings deign to follow you wherever you go.
The occasional glimmer of someone else’s headlights in your rearview mirror or strange sounds and happenings as you journey across the road evokes an underlying dread that you are being followed without ever really needing to say anything. The shadowy figures that act as enemies appear silent, vaguely human, and definitely disconcerting, so I’m interested to see how the developer makes use of his assets. There’s quite a bit of promise to be seen in this short little demo, so we’ll have to see where it goes.
Like I said, you can download the demo yourself, or if you aren’t the type to do that sort of thing, you can also check out some gameplay of the demo here and here, if you’re so inclined. Beware is still in early development with no release date and only a PC release planned thus far, but you can check out more information on the title at its IndieDB page here.
