When it comes to Netflix’s The Witcher, many of us love nothing more than to watch the white wolf himself swing into action with his silver sword to defeat monsters and other challenging foes. When The Witcher jumped from the pages of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to the video game and then to Netflix, fans could barely hold their excitement to see Henry Cavill take on the role of Geralt of Rivia and to celebrate all of his killer witchery moves in the series, Cavill takes us through a step by step break down of that heart-stopping battle between Geralt and Renfri.
Over on Netflix’s YouTube channel, Henry Cavill takes the spotlight to guide fans through the steps he took in The Witcher as he came up against the fearless Renfri, a princess born during the black sun and a background similar to Snow White’s but much darker. The video starts out with Cavill narrating the scene at Blaviken where he came up against Renfri’s gang. Going into a bit more detail, he points out that when taking on one of the gang’s members, he’s actually blocking their blows using only a cut-off sword thanks to CGI.
By using this prop, Cavill says that “it allows for a lot more moves to be done which involves blood and gore” but that the actors have to perform believing that it’s actually a full-length sword and then leaving the rest up the magic workers at the studio who fill in the rest of the blade. Breaking down that incredible fighting scene with Renfri, Cavill says that he and Emma Appleton who plays the princess were “moving an inch away from each other’s heads”. He described the frantic sword fight as a “true dance that requires a lot of patience and a lot of skill”.
Make sure you check out the video below, it’s certainly a must for Witcher fans to relive that epic scene once more but with some juicy details this time around.
Thankfully, we won’t have too long to wait until we see some brand new monster-slaying action as The Witcher season 2 is currently set to return on August 17, 2021.
