Horizon Zero Dawn is just one of those games that you can sink hours into before you even realize it. It not only has great combat mechanics without sacrificing its storyline but its open-world allows you to get completely lost in its vast valleys and mountains. It’s also no wonder why so many cosplayers turn to this title time after time to mostly show off the game’s main protagonist, Aloy. But it’s certainly a great surprise, and uncommon, to stumble across a Mother and Daughter cosplay duo as remarkable as these two who proudly stand side by side as Aloy and Elisabet from Horizon Zero Dawn.
Mariia Karpenko, a Ukrainian cosplayer and co-founder of her own cosplay agency, has over the years provided many faces in her cosplay adventures but this time, she thought she’d try something a little different. The idea of finding out who you are and where you came from is an important part of Horizon Zero Dawn’s story, so Mariia decided to adapt that message into her own life and take her mother along on her cosplaying journey with her because of how much Aloy’s emotional voyage touched her heart. As you can see in the picture, Mariia’s mother took to the idea and dressed up as Elisabet Sobeck who plays an important role in Horizon Zero Dawn. Without going too much into it for those who have yet to play the game, Elisabet is a scientist who invented the Project Zero Dawn as an answer to the eradication of life on earth due to a glitch that made a group of superpowerful and self-replicating military robots aim at attacking anything alive.
Mariia’s mother and daughter cosplay adventure lay dormant on her PC for around three years before she decided to post it on Reddit. It quickly gained traction with some users either loving it or hating it. One of the main concerns that have been voiced was the overuse of photoshop to create the backdrop and the apparent touching up of the pair. It’s clear to see that Mariia and her mother put the work into recreating Aloy and Elisbet’s attire so adding some extra creative vision only adds to the process, in my opinion.
For those of you who don’t own a PlayStation 4, the news that Horizon Zero Dawn will be making its way to PC is great news. In an interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Head of Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst finally put the rumors to bed and confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn coming to PC was true. As a huge fan of the game myself, I was thrilled to hear that more people would experience Aloy’s adventures for themselves. Many of us love a good board game so when board game makers Steamforged Games launched the Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game, I couldn’t be happier. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, it has been put on hold for now but hopefully, everything will be up and running as soon as possible because, I for one, would love to get my hands on it.
In the meantime though, if you love comics as much as I do then July can’t come quick enough. A new comic book series based on Horizon Zero Dawn and set to launch on July 22, 2020, written by Anne Toole, is set to explore the story after the events of the first game. Anne is known for having been a writer on Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as written work that can be found in games such as Days Gone, The Witcher, and TV shows such as “Days of Our Lives.”
Horizon Zero Dawn is available now on the PS4 and later on in the year on PC. If you haven’t played it yet, you can check out DualShockers’ review.
