News, Originals, PS4, PS4 Sales

The PS4 has been a monumental success and everyone knows it. The console has broken records all over the place and has sold over 91 million consoles as of December 31, 2018 and that number is not slowing down. With this information, that means games are selling incredibly well for the console as well. Now, we have a look at the top 50 selling physical games in Japan from February 2014 to February 2019.

The numbers most certainly are not going to reach that massive numbers the US brings in just because of the population sizes alone. On top of that, there were some surprises here as well. Granted, you have to take everything on this list with a grain of salt because it only takes physical copies into consideration.

Of course, Monster Hunter World is going to top the list in Japan. The Monster Hunter following n Japan is absolutely huge, so that is no surprise to me. What might even be more surprising is Knack cracking the top ten. Yes, you read that right. Knack. Quite honestly, I have no idea how that happened so let’s just move on.

What is a bit funny to me is the different type of genres that appeal to the Japanese audience compared to the US. While you would imagine that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best selling titles on the system in the United States, the game barely cracked the top 50 in Japan.

The PS4’s lifecycle is still far from over, so these numbers are still going to grow. It is still pretty fascinating to see the disparity between Japanese preferences and other areas when it comes to genres.
