Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is Niantic’s attempt to merge the Harry Potter license with the popular Pokemon Go app. The game went into a limited beta in New Zealand last month and, while we still don’t know the exact release date, it appears that the launch is happening relatively soon. Today the team released a slick new trailer that is going to make most Harry Potter fans giddy. Check it out below.
The trailer is an APB to all wizards throughout the world. The wizarding world is in danger of being discovered and it is your job to stop the madness. Clips from the trailer show odd occurrences happening all over. Books are attacking a friendly convenience store worker and Nifflers are just sitting out in plain sight. Heck, there’s even a Cerberus just tossing cars asunder in a parking garage.
The threat to magicians everywhere is real and, through touchscreen tracing, you must fight back against the threats to wizard-kind. The game looks to feature much more story than Pokemon Go, which should make book readers happy. You’ll be working with other wizards in what the developers are calling a “deep, multi-year narrative”.
The trailer is very slick and well done. It will be interesting to see how good the actual game is. Pokemon Go was an easy sell based on nostalgia and gameplay that translated easily to mobile. Wizards Unite has the nostalgia factor easily, but I’m still not completely sold on the gameplay just yet. I’ll be eager to get my hands on it when it finally does release.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will launch sometime this year for iOS and Android mobile devices.
