Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have seen setback after setback in the gaming industry: events being canceled, news being delayed, and of course, games being pushed to 2021. Halo Infinite is the latest title to make this announcement, and the reception behind it has been relatively mixed. Some find it to be the end-all be-all for the Xbox Series X, while others are willing to wait for it to come out when it is good and ready.
If I were to put myself under any platform umbrella, it would be Xbox. It has been my primary gaming console since the 360 and yes, I even purchased the Xbox One at launch and I have no regrets. As a platform, Xbox has come a long way since then and even though the anticipated sci-fi shooter isn’t coming out during the holiday season as expected, that shouldn’t deter you from getting a next-gen Xbox when it comes out later this year.

Delaying Halo Infinite is the correct move, do not rush a game if its not ready
Does it hurt the Series X launch? Yes but worse would be rushing Halo to make launch and doing permanent damage to the franchise

A lot of gamers who play on PlayStation do so because of their first-party lineup, and I can’t blame those for doing so, but Xbox now is offering something more than just exclusives: options. Back during “the console wars” of the past, the conversation was always “which platform had the best exclusives,” and would define whether that system “won” the console generation. But now in a time where accessing games is easier than ever, having exclusives as your main selling point isn’t attractive, it’s loathsome. I currently have an Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and Nintendo Switch along with my PC, and the PlayStation 4 is the only system that I use entirely for its exclusive titles. The fact of the matter is the console war is over, and PlayStation won. Instead of beating a dead horse, Xbox has moved on to do bigger and, in my opinion, better things.
It is true that I could just drop Xbox and do most of my gaming on the upcoming PS5, but at the end of the day, Xbox has so much more to offer. It has ascended past being only a gaming console: it is a platform where you can choose to play on console, PC, and phone, or tablet with xCloud. Along with Game Pass, Xbox offers the best deal in gaming: purchase an Xbox console, get a subscription, and then you can be set. All of Xbox’s first-party developed or published titles will come day one on the service along with over a hundred other titles at any given time. This will be the same case for Series X at launch that even without Halo, you will immediately have access to a massive library of games on the most powerful console available.
Halo Infinite alone is not worth getting a Series X. If you have a PC, you can play it there if you so choose, but getting a next-gen Xbox is investing in the platform for its entire life cycle. Even without Halo, there are many other third-party titles coming this holiday that will look and play best on Xbox Series X. If you’re a couch gamer like me and want to play on a giant TV with 4K HDR graphics then that is great; if you want to play on PC, that is fine too. Xbox’s next-gen hardware is just one of several choices to experience Xbox titles and unless you have already heavily invested in a gaming PC, the best way to play it will be through one of their next-generation consoles.
I’m honestly not looking forward to purchasing a PlayStation 5 because I know I will only use it a few times a year. Meanwhile, I know that I’ll be on my Xbox Series X almost every day I play games, and with the amount of value that Xbox brings to the table through Game Pass, there is no way I am stepping away. For those that are considering doing exactly that solely because one video game is being delayed, I would like you to take a step back and think about everything that Xbox has to offer before making that decision.
