At BitSummit 6, Inti Creates announced a brand new title in the Gunvolt series – Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX. The announcement was scarce on details outside of the fact that it starred Copen and that it was coming to Nintendo Switch. While we hadn’t heard much about the game since, CEO Takuya Aizu told me at E3 2018 that Inti Creates had “every intention on developing this game at a high-speed manner” though development was in its “early stages” at the time.
Today, we finally heard about Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX again at BitSummit 7, where Inti Creates revealed that it was coming to PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2019. This will put its release just three days shy of the 3 year anniversary of Azure Striker Gunvolt 2. Not much has come from the series in that time other than Gunvolt’s appearance in Blade Strangers and Mighty Gunvolt Burst, so fans of this series will definitely be happy to see it return. You can check out its latest trailer below:
Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX will also be the first game in the Gunvolt series to come to PS4 and brings the series back to PC following Azure Striker Gunvolt’s 2015 release on Steam. Inti Creates recently announced plans to bring their lineup over to Steam starting with Blaster Master Zero, so this announcement definitely seems to indicate that they are sticking to their word and supporting PC.
A bunch of new gameplay and story details regarding Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX were also revealed today. The game will retain Copen’s face paced gameplay from Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, only accentuating things with new abilities that Copen’s tactic of dashing into enemies before locking onto them completely even more effective. Of course, Lola is still there to help him with the Flashfield barrier, EX weapons, and here Idol and Awakened modes.
The story of Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX sees Copen trying to protect the “minos” of his world, or the people who do not have powers and are being slaughtered for it. Towards the start of his adventure, Copen meets a new character named Kohaku, who will help him at his base of operations. Through Luminous Avenger iX, Copen faces off against various bosses, ultimately obtaining their EX weapons and progressing throughout the story.
You can see the first screenshots of the game below. Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX is now poised to launch for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch on September 26 and will even reward those who pre-order with a special costume for Kohaku that is based on Lola.
