Arc System Works has detailed an upcoming closed beta test for Guilty Gear Strive today. The beta will run from April 16 to April 19, with sign-up applications open from now until April 5. In addition, they have confirmed that Guilty Gear Strive will feature rollback netcode after much fan request.
Applications are open to anyone with a valid PSN account for Japan, USA or Europe. A currently active PlayStation Plus subscription is NOT required to participate. You also don’t need to re-apply if you’ve already been confirmed for the closed beta through another event or survey. Arc System Works’ website went down briefly after the initial announcement, but they assured everyone that the beta is not first come first serve; applications will be considered until the April 5 closing date.
Currently, all seven confirmed characters will be playable in the Guilty Strive Strive closed beta: Sol, Ky, May, Axl, Chip, Potemkin and Faust. The as-yet unnamed character shown at the end of the original EVO trailer will not be present.
Speaking of, a new trailer is also slated to drop on March 21, which you can find scheduled on Arc System Works’ official Youtube page. This month’s Brussels Challenge and Final Round were originally slated to premiere this trailer; sadly, both events are among the many canceled due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
ArcSys took to Twitter with a handful of new posts, detailing the Closed Beta timeline and how to opt-in. They then closed their announcement with this tweet:

Further information on the official page reads as follows:
“Although the current beta test build is using a similar delay-based netcode from previous titles, a rollback-based netcode is currently in development for the final product of the game.”
Netcode has been heavily discussed in the fighting game community as of late. All current Arc System Works use a delay-based netcode, which has proven less effective at higher latency than more contemporary rollback systems like GGPO. With this statement, it suggests that ArcSys is attempting to develop their own brand of netcode for Guilty Gear Strive. Capcom has been in contention with fans recently for their handling of their proprietary rollback netcode; a recent fan patch saw dramatic improvements for many, but it is no longer functional since Capcom patched it out. Their own adjustments to the netcode have reportedly been less consistent, so this remains a sore spot for many. Here’s hoping Arc System Works fares better in their efforts.
Guilty Gear Strive will be available on the PS4 and in arcades, and is currently slated to drop sometime in 2020. DualShockers will be sure to keep you posted on new Guilty Gear Strive information, including the upcoming trailer. You can sign up for the closed beta here.
