God of War Director Gives His Opinion on Ragnarok’s Release Date

God of War fans may have been disappointed that they didn’t get to hear anything at yesterday’s State of play regarding the sequel, even though many knew that it was unlikely to happen, but we live in hope. God of War: Ragnarok was officially revealed in September 2020, with Sony giving it a very wide release window of 2021 at the time, and with nothing mentioned since, it seems more and more apparent that the sequel could release at some stage next year instead.

Santa Monica Studios’ creative director Cory Barlog took to Twitter to give a brief statement on the goings-on of the game and when he thought it would release. Even though Barlog didn’t actually mention the title in his tweet, it was fairly obvious what he was referencing. Barlog said, “I don’t know who needs to hear this… (certainly not me since I have never heard of it) but… WHEN. IT’S. DONE. (trust that it’s what’s best for everyone)”. This was probably in response to people asking about the game’s release date when they saw it didn’t appear in the State of Play.

In a recent interview with Jim Ryan, the Sony boss didn’t disclose a thread of information regarding God of War: Ragnarok but did discuss Horizon Forbidden West and his confidence at a release window this year. The silence on the God of War sequel certainly seems like fans won’t get to experience the game this year.

As of now, we still have no title yet for the unnamed sequel to God of War but, as it stands, it is still slated down to happen this year, apparently. If you have no idea what all the fuss is about, God of War is available exclusively on PS4 and you can pick up a physical copy from Amazon right now.
