After announcing the new Summer Game Fest event earlier this month, it seems as though the showcase is about to kick into high gear. Not only is there a new game reveal planned to take place today in a little under an hour, but according to Geoff Keighley, the organizer of Summer Game Fest, there is a rather large announcement of sorts that will be dropping tomorrow.
In a new conversation on Twitter, Keighley was asked by one user about what should be expected for Wednesday’s Summer Game Fest event. As of now, Keighley hasn’t said what the showing will take the form of other than simply being a stream of some sort. In his response, Keighley said that Wednesday’s event will actually be “one of the more important moments this summer,” seeming to indicate that big things could be coming.

For now, it’s a bit hard to pinpoint just what this stream could be related to, especially given the amount of gaming news that is on the horizon. You would imagine that if this forthcoming event had a major company like Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo involved, that information would be disclosed beforehand. Additionally, if this was simply just another game unveiling of sorts, Keighley seems like he would have just said as much by now.
It’s also worth noting that, as we have seen over the past week, some in the video game industry have the tendency to hype up events as being something much more than they actually are. Microsoft ran into this issue last with its Xbox Series X gameplay reveal stream on Inside Xbox, only for what was shown in the video to not line up with what was expected. The team at Xbox has since said it has taken notice of how it set up the stream with wrong expectations for fans. Hopefully, Keighley isn’t falling into the same trap by hyping up this Summer Game Fest stream for May 13.
Whatever tomorrow has in store, we’ll obviously keep you updated here on DualShockers once the Summer Game Fest event occurs. Fingers crossed that it ends up being as vital as Keighley is making it out to be.
