Today, The Game Awards creator and producer Geoff Keighley announced Summer Game Fest, a 4-month all-digital event featuring new announcements and free playable content.
From May to August 2020, the Summer Game Fest will feature updates from some of the biggest publishers, platforms, and developers from the games industry. In a tweet, Keighley revealed “Phase 1” of the event, which points to some big announcements from some well-established companies like Xbox, PlayStation, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard, and EA. How many phases and when each one begins and ends is still unknown. However, Keighley says that the schedule will launch soon on the official website, and next Thursday’s Xbox Series X-focused Inside Xbox will be part of the event.
The press release also states that details for the event will be shared by game publishers, with even more publishers set to be announced throughout the next few months. Keighley will also be working with iam8bit to create a showcase featuring upcoming games.
“In these uncertain and challenging times, it’s more important than ever that video games serve as a common and virtual connection point between us all,” said Keighley. “SGF is an organizing principle that promises fans a whole season of video game news and other surprises from the comfort of home.”

Keighley also mentioned on Twitter that Xbox will announce playable game festival will occur this Summer as well, but more details will be shared soon. There is also mention of other platforms, but specifics have yet to be fleshed out.
While a schedule has not yet been revealed (as of this writing), on August 24, Gamescom: Opening Night Live will act as a finale to the Summer Game Fest. You will be able to watch all of the programmings on just about every major streaming platform.
