The Genshin Impact fandom on the official Discord and hoYoLAB forums is brimming with imagination, and the latest meme taking the player base by storm is using McDonald’s pfp – profile pictures – all while role playing Genshin characters working as wage slaves for the fast-food giant.

How the Genshin Impact McDonald’s PFP meme started
This supposedly all started a few days ago. On the official Genshin Impact Discord, and its off-topic section. For one reason or another, more and more Discord members started role playing McDonald’s employees versions of the characters.
Several fans changed their profile picture and avatars to photo shopped versions of official Genshin Impact artwork. With the characters sporting McDonald’s caps and uniforms. Then, it all snowballed from there.
Eventually, things started getting out of hand. More and more fans were role playing as McGenshin characters, which started irritating the rest of the community.
Right now, as of April 27, 2021, role-playing as a Genshin Impact character working at McDonald’s will get you muted by mods on the official Discord.
Some of Zhongli’s lines, especially the “I will have order” line, which was recently made into stickers, also participated in the meme’s spread.

The McGenshin meme lives on
While the official Genshin Impact Discord cracked down on McGenshin, the meme is still going strong. Several fans joined together to create their own Discord servers dedicated to the Genshin Impact McDonald’s lore. Others have been role playing on Twitter:
If you’re unfamiliar with Genshin Impact, it’s important to note several characters in the game are known to be particularly hard workers. Horned girl and cosplayers’ favorite Ganyu, for example, is literally working overtime non stop. These kind of characters mesh perfectly with the meme. And fans are having fun imagining how each character would react in typical McDonald’s situations.
Players have even started drawing crossover fanart of Genshin Impact and McDonald’s:
The meme isn’t stopping anytime soon. It’ll be interesting if miHoYo ends up announcing an actual collab with McDonald’s in America. Seeing a Genshin KFC collab happened in China.
