Last year, 11 bit Studios told DualShockers that it was planning to bring Frostpunk to consoles. While Senior Marketing Manager Karol Zajaczkowski told us that it could happen “by the end of the year,” that never came to fruition in 2018. Fortunately, 11 bit Studios confirmed today that the game would finally be coming to PS4 and Xbox One, titled Frostpunk: Console Edition, this Summer.
While players may be weary about a console port of a management focused game, even Karol voiced concern in our interview, the developers are promising that Frostpunk: Console Edition will be a “finely tuned adaptation.” 11 bit Studio has taken the time to redesign some aspects of the game for consoles, mainly when it comes to its controls. We don’t see much of it in the announcement trailer though, so I’m definitely still curious to see how it will play as a fan of the genre that has never been impressed by its console ports.
The developers also confirmed that Frostpunk: Console Edition will include “The Fall of Winterhome scenario, additional customization options, difficulty settings, and balance tweaks.” Any future content updates will apply to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game as well going forward. Otherwise, the tough but rewarding game still seems to be intact so those who haven’t played the game but would like to try it may want to keep an eye on this port.
You can check out the first screenshots of the console port below. Frostpunk is currently available on PC, with Frostpunk: Console Edition is coming to PS4 and Xbox One sometime this Summer.
