Intelligent Systems announced two new Fire Emblem Drama CDs will be released on March 18, 2020, in Japan. We’ve got an Awakening Drama CD, and a Three Houses Drama CD. They will be priced at 2000 Yen (tax included) each.
The Fire Emblem Awakening Drama CD will feature protagonist Reflet (male)/Yoshimasa Hosoya, Chrom/Tomokazu Sugita, Lucina/Yū Kobayashi, and Jerome/Tarusuke Shingaki.
The Fire Emblem Three Houses Drama CD will feature Edelgard/Ai Kakuma, Dimitri/Kaito Ishikawa, Claude/Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Sothis/Tomoyo Kurosawa, and the gate guardian/Shinobu Matsumoto.
Samples for the two Drama CDs are included below.
If you don’t know about Drama CDs, these are audio CDs with side stories about a game, anime, manga or novel. Most of the time they’re comedic in nature and don’t include any important plot points. Usually, when a novel or manga is popular, the first thing it ever gets isn’t an anime adaptation or a game adaptation but a Drama CD. You often find Drama CDs in Limited Editions of games or manga volumes. Sadly they rarely ever officially leave Japan. For example, the most recent case I can think of is Rune Factory 4 Special. The Japanese limited edition included a Drama CD, but the western version won’t.
Seeing Fire Emblem always had a very dedicated fanbase, with fan translators, even before Fire Emblem Awakening‘s boom, it’s highly likely you’ll end up finding English translations of these two Drama CDs on the net.
These two upcoming Drama CDs are part of the Fire Emblem Extra Drama CD series. This series is pretty new. It started with a Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade Drama CD and a Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Drama CD, released simultaneously on April 17, 2019.
In related news, Nintendo and Intelligent Systems are also organizing the Fire Emblem Expo II event on May 5 and 6, at Zepp Namba in Osaka. I imagine anyone reading this and actually planning to go to this expo know enough Japanese to check the official site for more details by themselves, as I don’t have the time to cover that myself.
Fire Emblem Three Houses is available on Nintendo Switch. Its protagonist Byleth was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on January 28. Nintendo recently started sharing details about the upcoming Three Houses Cindered Shadows side story DLC. We most notably learned that this side story features four new characters called the Ashen Wolves, along with Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude, Linhardt, Ashe, Hilda, and Byleth.
