Square Enix published today the second episode of the Inside Final Fantasy VII Remake making of, the series of videos explaining to fans how the Remake was developed through the words of its own core staff.

This second episode focuses on the story and characters of Final Fantasy VII Remake. The video features Producer Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy scenarist Kazushige Nojima, and Co-director Motomu Toriyama (Scenario Design).

One of the most interesting parts of the video is Nojima mentioning how Midgar obviously represents social segregation, with the rich living above the plates and the poor below, and how it’s a simple representation of inequalities of the real world that still holds true even 20 years later. Nojima also talks about Cloud, Barret, Tifa and Aerith’s psyche and motivations, so the video contains some spoilers regarding that if you’ve never played the original game. Nojima most notably echoes what Tetsuya Nomura said about Cloud, and what we learn about Tifa and Aerith is reminiscent of what Nomura said a few months ago about the duo as well.

At the 12:55 mark, Kazushige Nojima also reveals something pretty interesting about Cloud and Tifa in the Remake. This could be considered spoilers especially for those who want to go into the game completely blind, (though I doubt they’d have clicked on this article in the first place), so just check it by yourself. We also learned how there’s something new about Aerith’s story but revealed in an extremly subtle way so most players might not notice what it is.

Square Enix recently published a new interview with Yoshinori Kitase and Naoki Hamaguchi explaining the scope of Midgar and revealing some new details about Shinra HQ and Red XIII. Profiles for some of the new characters were shared as well, alongside new screenshots and the reveal of the jukebox function.

Final Fantasy VII Remake launches on April 10, and Square Enix already mentioned it’ll be a PlayStation 4 exclusive until April 2021. Meaning a PC version and the like could launch then. Seeing the current state of the world, it’s still unclear whether fans will get their preordered physical copies on April 10 or not, and Square Enix is supposed to communicate on the matter in the next few days.
