Yesterday. Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Mistwalker Corporation announced the sequel to its popular mobile JRPG Terra Battle, aptly titled Terra Battle 2, and today the father of Final Fantasy himself introduced the first gameplay during a livestream on Nico Nico hosted by Famitsu.
The reveal was actually rather extensive, for about 24 minutes of raw gameplay (unfortunately, being Nico Nico, video quality isn’t the best, apologies for that), but it gives a good look at the new gameplay features of the game. Prominently, we have a world map that allows the player to explore at leisure and set the party formation before each battle.
Alongside Sakaguchi-san, the gameplay was presented by legendary Final Fantasy Composer Nobuo Uematsu, who is taking care of the game’s store. Kimihiko Fujisaka (Drakengard series, The Last Story) is bringing his artistry to the character design, and Bravely series developer Silicon Studio is working on the game as well.
The game will be part of a newly-named “Terra World” franchise, which also includes the first Terra Battle and Terra Wars. A console game was also promised a while ago, but we have no specific information about that.
Terra Battle 2 will release in 2017 both in japan and in the west for PC, iOS and Android.
