Today’s EA Play event included several first looks at upcoming games, including FIFA 21. Unfortunately, the presentation didn’t drop much info about this year’s iteration. It’s a pretty hype trailer though. Check out that Mbappe sweat and please excuse all the American football.
That being said, the official site has a few intriguing details. You can read them all for yourself, but one of the ones that caught my eye is the new controller haptics for the PS5. I doubt it’ll be mind-blowing or game-changing, but I’m curious to see how they use it.
The team is also focusing a lot on load times for next-gen. Getting me into games sounds great; however, it’s weird that’s all they’re focusing on. Everything else is just about improved graphics and better physics. We’ll know more in August as the team starts to drop new pitch notes for the different modes. That’s not all the FIFA news for today though.
FIFA 21 is also making a move to Steam. Though, like many of EA’s games on Steam, you’ll still need to use the Origin client. So, while it’s neat to see FIFA move to a platform people like, it’s definitely not exactly what players would want.
Potentially the most important news is that FIFA 21 supports what EA is called Dual Entitlement. Basically, this means you can upgrade your current-gen FIFA 21 to next-gen once those consoles launch. And your Ultimate Team and Volta progress carry over with you. Unfortunately, you can’t start on PS4 and switch to Xbox Series X or the opposite. That said, not making players start over in Ultimate Team is welcome news.
FIFA 21 launches on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 9. It will later release on PS5 and Xbox Series X. As usual, the Nintendo Switch will get a Legacy Edition, which is just a roster update.
