It’s that time of the year again folks! FIFA 20 is starting up one of the most exciting promos of the year with Team of the Season (So Far). Of course, with everything happening in the world, this year’s iteration is a little strange. Most leagues weren’t finished when the coronavirus shut the world down, so EA had to make a slight switch to the TOTSSF model. It’s basically the same but means that if the leagues come back and a player has a massive string of success, he won’t be recognized through a traditional TOTS card. That said, it’s the best EA could do given the circumstances. Check out the first, community-voted TOTSSF cards below.

Alongside the community-voted team, the first week of TOTSSF brings the team from the Championship league. Both teams are stacked with juiced players, though the community team is undoubtedly the better of the two. Some of the highlights include Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, West Ham’s Felipe Anderson, Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, and Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips. Obviously, there are tons more. This is one of EA’s biggest promos, after all. Plus, the biggest teams are still on their way, so keep an eye out for teams from the Premier League, La Liga, and more in the coming weeks.

Outside of packs, EA has already released a bit of TOTSSF content into SBCs and Objectives. Presumably, they’ll add more over the next month or so, but the first day has given us a 90-rated Mauro Icardi in a relatively cheap SBC and two new objective cards in Ivan Toney and Marcus Thuram. There should be much more to come, so keep that fodder stocked.

Speaking of objectives, today also marks the beginning of season six in FIFA 20. That means new Objective players to earn, cosmetic items to claim, and Icon swaps to grind through. EA has definitely hit a pattern with these, so don’t expect anything mind-blowing at this point. Over the course of the season, you’ll get two new Prime Icon Moments loans in Luis Figo and Socrates.

The new Objective players include Ianis Hagi, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Juan Agudelo, Mario Gotze, Pedro, and Samuel Umtiti. Personally, I find that to be a little lackluster of a list. As an American, it’s a bit annoying to get another countryman in the same position as our last Objective player. And, I get that Chelsea is popular, but they now have three Objective players. Spread the love a little, EA. Or at least give me Christian Pulisic instead of Pedro. Personal gripes aside, Umtiti and Pedro present some interesting squad-building opportunities. So, at the very least, these will help your hybrid squads when you unlock them in five or six weeks.

As ever, it’s tough to predict where EA goes with this promo. I still think Future Stars was their best effort, but TOTSSF has quite a bit of potential. Check back next week for the second batch of teams, SBCs, and Objectives. But for now, get to grinding.

FIFA 20 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
