It isn’t really a Ubisoft reveal unless a ton of info leaks beforehand, right?
Anyway, Far Cry 6′s CGI trailer leaked online a day ahead of the Ubisoft Forward digital showcase, where the game was supposed to be revealed. A French website first posted the video, but it was taken down with a copyright strike soon after once the trailer quickly began spreading through platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and ResetEra.
The trailer leak comes just a day after an early Hong Kong PlayStation Store listing revealed the premise and major selling points of the game, including confirmation that Giancarlo Esposito (of Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian fame) would star as this installment’s villain, a dictator named Anton Castillo.
Although the original source is gone, you don’t have to go very far to find a mirror of it, but note that the version that leaked is not in english.
The trailer depicts a heavily-populated city in revolt (presumably within the game’s fictional setting of Yara) and Anton and his son Diego living securely and comfortably above it all.
Diego, listening to music and constructing a model car inside, is interrupted by Anton, who hands him a live grenade to hold down while being led outside. This reveals the revolution happening down below, and Anton is presumably encouraging Diego to throw the grenade down on to the rebelling citizens.
Conflicted, Diego holds the grenade up as the camera zooms in on the live explosive in his hands, but cuts before a decision is made, bringing up the leaked key art and the logos for current and next-gen platforms, along with the reported Feb. 18, 2021 release date.
They’re not the best quality, but you can check out a few screens captured from the leaked trailer below.
With the Ubisoft Forward showcase set for Sunday (3 p.m. ET, Noon PT), it’ll be a short wait before we get to see more of Far Cry 6, along with what else the publisher has in store for the near future, like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion.
And while leaks do make a mess of the company’s plans, lets be real for a second, Ubisoft has far more serious internal issues to deal with right now.
