Fallout: New Vegas shares something with its other Bethesda-published RPG brethren: it has a vibrant modding community. Much like Skyrim and the other Fallout titles, there’s a mod for almost anything in New Vegas. Of course, that includes massive overhauls. Much like the Skyblivion mod for Skyrim or Fallout 4: New Vegas, fans of the game have been sweating over keyboards for years to create something new from their favorite game. That passion project, titled The Frontier, has finally released for Fallout: New Vegas after six years in development.
Saying this mod is massive is an understatement. It may as well be its own game. There are three main quest lines for players to go down, and after that, 60+ side quests to play through. Two of these main quest lines take roughly 15 hours to finish, while the last can take over 35. In true Fallout fashion, there’s also a reason to explore the world with plenty of unmarked quests for players to dig through.
But perhaps the biggest addition players will find in The Frontier are actual working vehicles. You can still wander through the wastes of Portland, Oregon, the game’s setting, but there’s also the option to drive in style. The mod includes drivable cars, with its Steam page describing the system as “the best iteration of a modded driving system for a Fallout title ever!” Players can cruise around in armored cars complete with mounted weapons or even tanks. The mod also fulfills every Fallout player’s dream by letting them fly a Vertibird.
Downloading The Frontier for Fallout: New Vegas is a little tricky. It can only be downloaded through Nexus Mods at the moment and has a good number of required or recommended mods as well. After getting it all in place though, players will be treated to a brand new Fallout story that may as well be its own game.
