Edmund McMillen is practically the human representation of game teases. Often talking in cryptic language or offering game news in vague tweets, McMillen knows how to keep his fanbase guessing. And while some of his most recent statements have cleared up questions about The Binding of Isaac content, there was also some vague hints at new DLC on the horizon.

In a developer Q&A on McMillen’s dev blog, McMillen addressed the booster content of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+. First on his list of priorities is finishing up the last free booster for PC, which should be out “in a month or so.” Adding to that, he added that once “all the boosters release on PC, Nicalis will start porting them to console.”

Onto the more substantive questions, he addressed whether The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ will be getting an Xbox One release.  McMillen had an answer for that in no uncertain terms:

yes, i can officially say that Afterbirth+ is in development and will release on Xbox1!

And while the answer was clear on that, McMillen was a little more dodgy about both the idea of a Binding of Isaac sequel and future DLC. Regarding a Binding of Isaac sequel, the answer is both “unlikely” but not a definitive no:

truth be told, i tend to design sequels to projects i love pretty soon after release, sometimes those turn into totally new IPs, sometimes the ideas die and other times you get diarrhea. what does this mean for Isaac 2? i have no idea, but please leave me alone.

However, the idea of a Binding of Isaac DLC seems a lot more promising… but speculative. It had been noted before that The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ would be the last DLC iteration of the game, but that may no longer be the end of the story:

i did say many times this was going to be the last isaac DLC.. and at the time i strongly believed it. but there seems to be something pretty cool on the horizon, its creeping up slowly.. its familiar but a bit different and its being held up by a group of people… when i squint i think i can make out a… oh sorry i gotta go, there is someone watching me in my space ship.

The Binding of Isaac has been a raging success ever since it launched almost seven years ago on the PC. Since then, the game has been released in many different forms — including Rebirth, Afterbirth, and Afterbirth+ which are remakes and expansions of the original game. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
