In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, EA Motive’s Patrick Klaus says EA is becoming a different company that’s focusing on quality.
“It feels like a different company, a company that’s very much focused on quality,” says Klaus. “That’s part of the reason that got me excited about coming back, really the number one priority is that we want to make great games, and EA execs are really empowering Montreal with the amount of talent we have in the studio to play a big part in making some awesome games for EA.”
Prior to joining EA Motive, Klaus was a managing director at Ubisoft Quebec. Before him, Jade Raymond saw over the developer before leaving to take a position at Google. EA Motive is more well known for assisting in developing Star Wars: Battlefront II, which released in 2017 to a mixed reception. Since its release, the game continues to recieve new content such as the return of the Instant Action mode back in September. Additionally, in a report from GameSpot, the game will get new content based on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which releases in theaters on December 20. The Battlefront II update releases tomorrow, December 17.
In the interview, Klaus mentions that while EA doesn’t intend on making bad games, the leadership, times, and messages changed their stance. Additionally, Klaus says this change is felt and reinfornced everyday at the publisher. Klaus also reveals that the team is working on two projects: a new Star Wars project and a new IP.
“I have a strong belief that quality trumps all,” Klaus continues. “We have to have the faith that if we focus on quality, on player experience, test and prove our hypothesis regularly — move away from the mindset of one creative genius having a vision for the game and the whole team executing — it’s working as a team, trying out different things and the testing it and iterating based on that. We’re doing a lot more than that, and success will come if we focus on team and focus on quality.”
