E3 2021 – Seven Bold Predictions for the Nintendo Direct Presentation

Gamer Christmas is here, and we’ve come to my favourite part, the E3 Nintendo Direct.

As I like to do, I’ve made some predictions for what I think (see hope) lies in store at this years event.

So, without further ado, here are my E3 2021 Nintendo Direct Presentation predictions.

7. Metroid Opens the Show

If I was being polite, I would say that Metroid Prime 4 has had a troubled development cycle.

The game has changed hands, development has been restarted and there’s been no news for many years.

Nintendo knows their audience is dying for something. Anything. And opening the show with either a Prime 4 tease or a Prime Trilogy will whet the appetite of many.

6. Revali Announced for Smash

We’re bound to find out the identity of the next Smash Ultimate character during the E3 Nintendo Direct and it’s high time for another Zelda representative.

We’ve not had a new Zelda character since all the way back in Brawl and considering the popularity the series has risen to since the release of BOTW, plus the impending 35th anniversary, it just makes sense. My pick for this addition is Revali.

Now, he was my least favourite of the four Champions by a significant margin, however, in terms of potential moveset and variation from the rest of the roster, I think he’s the best fit.

Considering we never got Decidueye, I think we need an archer bird in the game.

5. Star Fox Goes Back to its Roots

We’ve not had a proper Star Fox game in many, many a year now.

Nintendo likes to toy with the formula and then, tends to complain when it’s not as critically or commercially successful as it would have hoped.

Therefore, I think Nintendo takes one more roll of the dice on Fox and co, as I imagine it did recently with Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and takes Star Fox back to its pure rail shooter roots.

If it works, which I think it would, fantastic. If it doesn’t. RIP.

4. Persona 5 (finally) Comes to Nintendo Switch

Okay, so if you read my last Nintendo Direct predictions, this was my number one pick.

I still absolutely feel like this is bound to happen one day and what grander stage to announce it than E3?

The two companies, both Nintendo and Atlus, must know that the game would shift millions of units on the hybrid console and with Joker in Smash and Persona 5 Strikers already on the console, it’s a no brainer.

3. Super Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy are to Release Individually on the eShop. The Internet Loses it.

• REVIEW – Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Nintendo is one of the most popular companies in the world. They also make incredibly baffling anti-consumer decisions that make absolutely no sense – just like when they killed Mario in March.

After selling 64, Sunshine and Galaxy as a package and then unceremoniously removing it just a few months later, it’s safe to add this one to the unusual decision pile.

With Nintendo seemingly so out of touch with their audience, it would be no great surprise to see the gaming giants announce that all three games will be released individually on the eShop, causing the internet to lose its mind.

2. Nintendo Kart is Announced

Undoubtedly, this one’s a little contentious.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling like hotcakes, however, that game is now over seven years old. Without any new DLC, Nintendo Switch owners are pining for some fresh Mario Kart content.

There’s some debate over what route Nintendo will choose next. Will it go with a Mario Kart Ultimate, bringing all racers, tracks, karts, items and more back from previous games, or will it go with the Super Smash Bros. ethos and bring together a bunch of different franchises to race?

For me, Nintendo Kart would be the choice pick but it would present more of a risk. It would potentially lose the Mario Kart name recognition and would bring in characters that aren’t instantly recognisable to a more casual audience.

Whatever Nintendo decides is next though, it will sell MILLIONS of copies, especially if it’s a Switch Pro launch title.

I do hope it is Nintendo Kart though.

1. Breath of the Wild Sequel is Nintendo’s Big Holiday 2021 Game

So, this one isn’t exactly bold, but it’s been pretty much radio silence since Nintendo revealed the game.

With their holiday line-up still looking pretty empty, aside from the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, Breath of the Wild 2 is the perfect candidate to fill that gap.

Couple that with the fact that we’re currently celebrating Zelda’s 35th and this one has to be a no brainer. Right? RIGHT? RIGHT NINTENDO? PLEASE!!!!!!
