Today Koei Tecmo released a large batch of screenshots of its upcoming open-world Musou game Dynasty Warriors 9.
First of all, we get to see direct feed version of the images of the latest four characters revealed: Lu Meng, Jia Xu, Cao Ren and Xu Shu.
Secondly, we see how the war is fought on the open world map. There are key missions that progress the story, but before capturing the main cities, the game will prompt you to take smaller settlements. If you do that, the main city will be easier to conquer. On the other hand, if you ignore the secondary objectives, their status will depend on the AI, so you may want to be prepared to a higher level of challenge if your side isn’t winning.
Other sub-missions will let you find the location of the enemy’s storage facilities. By burning them down, you can lower their military power, greatly reducing difficulty of the main mission.
There are also several smaller engagements around the map, and by supporting your side, either by sticking yourself into battle or from afar with bows and arrows, maybe from the safety of a tower, you can push the front line and improve the military situation.
Depending on your actions, the overall challenge in the final assault will change radically.

Dynasty Warriors 9 will release in the west in early 2018 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, while in Japan it’ll be a PS4 exclusive
