For the past few years, Dying Light 2 has been one of the most anticipated games on the horizon with its unique take on the zombie post-apocalyptic genre thanks to an ever-changing world impacted by the player’s decisions. However, the game has had some notable development setbacks since its reveal at E3 2018, with one of the game’s creative leads officially departing from developer Techland after more than two decades with the studio.
Art director and writer Pawel Selinger announced on his LinkedIn that he has officially left Techland after being with the Polish studio for more than 22 years. In a post on LinkedIn, Selinger detailed that he “would like to express my gratitude to the company that has allowed me to develop and fulfill myself for half of my life.” He added in the post his hopes that “Dying Light 2 and subsequent projects will become world hits. Good bye and good luck!”
Aside from Selinger’s departure, so far updates on Dying Light 2 have been relatively quiet since the game was announced in 2018. Last year, Techland cut ties with the game’s narrative designer Chris Avellone in the wake of allegations of abuse and sexual harassment. The title was also delayed indefinitely last year from its planned spring 2020 release, but no clear release window for the game has been announced by the studio since then.
While there have been rumors of development troubles behind-the-scenes on the game, hopefully with the new year we’ll finally get to hear more about the long-awaited follow-up to the studio’s 2015 original. A developer from Techland recently hinted on Reddit that we’ll hear more about the game in the near future, but it remains to be seen how the game will shape up from when we last saw it.
Dying Light 2 is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC and set to release sometime in 2021.
