It’s that time of the year again, and you’re now called to decide DualShockers’ highest annual honor, the Game of the Year 2017 – Reader’s Choice Award.
Of course, at DualShockers, we value our opinion but ultimately we’re just a bunch of writers who love games. That’s why our Reader’s Choice Awards have traditionally become (both for relevant trade show and for the annual awards) our most relevant awards. We’ll have our staff-voted awards as well, but there is a whole lot more of you than there is of us, so this award is going to stand tall at the top of the list, as the collective expression of the will of our readers combined with ours. Each of our writers will vote as well, casting a single preference exactly like every one of you.
Below, you’ll find forms to vote for your favorite game. In order to limit spam, you’ll be asked to log in to a google account if you aren’t already. If you don’t have one, making it is pretty easy and very quick.
In order to be eligible for Game of the Year, a game needs to have been released for the first time (unless it’s a remaster/remake) between January 1st, 2017, and December 31st, 2017. Expansions are not eligible.
While we love Japanese games, only releases in the west are eligible, to avoid games appearing for two years in a row. For instance. it wouldn’t make sense to ask you to vote for Dragon Quest XI as Game of The Year, since most of you will play it in 2018. You’ll be able to vote for it starting tomorrow for our Most Anticipated Game of 2018 – Reader’s Choice Award and for Game of the Year 2018 one year from now.
Asian market releases in English have been included where appropriate in case a western release is confirmed as not happening, or extremely unlikely.
As you’ll probably notice, the list is very long. We decided that it wouldn’t make much sense to let you vote for your game of the year, but only within the nominees we like. So while it was pretty much impossible to include every game released in 2016 (even just because there isn’t enough room in our brains for them all), we tried to give you as many options as humanly possible. That being said, if you’d really like to vote for a game that is not on the list, let us know in the comment, and we’ll do our best to add it.
Titles are also listed in constantly changing random order, to avoid giving advantages to any. The order you see will be different from everyone else’s.
You’ll also notice that there are plenty of games that didn’t review very well on the list. It’s not our place to tell you what you should or shouldn’t like. Yet, we apologize if we missed or forgot games that you might love. After all, we’re only human.
You’re given the ability to change your vote at any time before the cutoff time, which will be December 31st, at 11:59:59 PM Pacific Time. People change their mind all the time, so we don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t be able to change your vote here.
