Dreams Early Access Period Will Begin on April 16

It’s been a long journey for release for Media Molecule’s Dreams, but the game creation platform is taking a step closer. In the midst of PAX East 2019, Media Molecule announced that the previously-announced Early Access period will begin on April 16. This trial period is coming after a formal beta and will focus primarily on the creation aspect of the game.

This Early Access period won’t include every feature planned for the final game, namely the story mode. Instead, participants can expect to access the full creative toolset, a number of interactive tutorials, templates, content created by the developers at Media Molecule themselves, and content from the rest of the Dreams community (or “CoMmunity,” as Media Molecule affectionately calls players of their games).

VR features will not be available during Early Access, but unlike with the beta, there will be no NDA—players can stream and share their creations from the get-go. The availability of Dreams on Early Access will be limited, although Media Molecule isn’t too specific about just how limited, only asking people to purchase it as soon as possible.

Dreams Early Access will go for $29.99 in the United States and $39.99 in Canada. Those who purchase the game in Early Access will have the full game upon its release, with all of their creations from Early Access or the earlier beta rolling over into the final game.

I personally can’t wait to get my hands on the creation tools; while I’ve played a few examples of games from Media Molecule and the larger community here at PAX East, I have a hard time wrapping my head around how these are actually created. There still isn’t a final release date for the full game, but at least Dreams will be in a more tangible form for PlayStation 4 owners very soon.
