With its official launch on PS4 last month, Media Molecule’s long-awaited Dreams has opened the doors for numerous players to expand their creativity and let their imaginations run wild. From fan-made recreations of classic and upcoming games, to some truly wild uses of its tools, Dreams is unlike anything Media Molecule has made before, with the studio now exploring how to bring player creations outside of the game environment.
Developer Media Molecule detailed that the studio is launching “a small beta evaluation trial” for players in Dreams to test the ability for players to export their creations “for business uses outside of Dreams.” While further explanations are a bit vague at this point, seemingly Media Molecule has in mind projects like “concept art, music videos, albums, short films” and more as potential ways that Dreams can be used in outside creative projects. For full details and how to apply for the trial, you can head to Media Molecule’s website.
Starting today, we’re launching a small beta evaluation trial for #DreamsPS4 creators to use their #MadeInDreams content for business uses outside of Dreams.

This trial will help us learn more about how people want to use it & what we need to do to make more things possible.

Specifically, Media Molecule detailed that the studio has had “lots of questions from creators” about the possibility and legality of being able to use creations made in in the game for outside commercial purposes. The studio itself said that while it will “welcome and encourage creators to do this,” they added that “it’s new territory for us.”
In response to these inquiries, the studio is launching this beta evaluation trial so that users can submit applications for their Dreams creations and how they would be implemented in specific projects. Currently, the beta is being opened to “a limited group of users” in order to provide Media Molecule with a more concrete sense of how players would be able to use Dreams creations for outside purposes and the studio’s role in supporting them.
Given that Dreams has proven itself as a powerful tool for creativity and innovation, it will be interesting to see how Media Molecule moves forward with supporting players that may want to integrate what they make in the game into real projects outside of it. While previously the creations that players make were limited to the confines of the game itself between players, hopefully Media Molecule can expand further on this idea to see Dreams incorporated into a number of different creative projects around the world.
Dreams is available now exclusively on PS4.
