The recent announcement of the western release of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age caused a lot of discussions (and some confusion) among the Japanese fanbase, due to the inclusion of English voice-overs, while the original game did not have any.
As a result, Producer Hokuto Okamoto took to Twitter to clarify a few relevant points for the fans. He mentioned that for those who would consider purchasing the English version, the version of the engine used is different, so he considers it “closer to a remaster than to an update.” Unfortunately implementing those changes on the Japanese version would require a lot of time and is not realistic in terms of costs.
Incidentally, the Steam version is not planned for release in Japan, and the audio will be only in English. The language of the text will change automatically depending on the language settings of the PS4. If the language in the PS4 is not included in the localization, English will be selected by default. Japanese text won’t be included, and only English, French, Italian, German, Spanish will be available for subtitles and menus.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will launch on PS4 and PC via Steam on September 4. The PS4 version of the game can already be pre-ordered on Amazon. A Switch version will also come down the line, but it will take a while.
