At E3 this year we got to see a brand, new trailer for Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition which drops onto the Nintendo Switch this September 27, 2019, and also a trailer on the multiple Dragon Quest hero characters who will be joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s roster as part of a DLC this Summer but that’s not where the Dragon Quest news ends.

Square Enix has announced that it will be working with Hori to bring out a Switch Pro Controller that’s shaped like the mascots of the Dragon Quest series to the Switch in Japan this September. The new controller is pretty much the same as the one they reawoke in 2017 for the PlayStation 4 but now it’s obviously more akin to the Switch Pro controller in its button layout and motion control functionality.

If you thought it couldn’t get much better, then you’re wrong. It even includes a cardboard stand so you can dress your Switch up like a Dragon Quest treasure chest and have it sitting proudly for all your friends and family to see – or freak out, but who cares as it’s super cool and adorable.

Dragon Quest Slime Controller features include:

  • You can operate the Nintendo Switch via Bluetooth wireless communication. The built-in battery eliminates the need for batteries.
  • You can charge this product by connecting the USB cable (USB Type-C) included with this product to the Nintendo Switch Dock.
  • You can also use a genuine Nintendo Switch AC adapter and USB cable (USB Type-C).
  • It can also be used for games that use an accelerometer/gyro sensor, such as tilting the controller.
  • It has a continuous fire / continuous fire hold function, and it is an effective function in the specific scene of “Dragon Quest XI In search of the time to go away S”.
  • The surface of the controller is rubber-coated for better feel and better grip.
  • A dedicated pedestal for display and a paper stand for Nintendo Switch are included.
  • The motif is a treasure box that appears in the Dragon Quest series, and when the controller is not used, it is a design that can be enjoyed as an interior.

The controller is priced at 10,778 yen which is roughly around the $100 mark and again, it looks set to release in Japan at some stage in September of this year. You can check it out over on the Square Enix store for yourself.
