When Doki Doki Literature Club hit in 2017, it made a huge impact in the video game community. To say much about the game would completely ruin the experience. You just need to know that, while it seems a lighthearted dating sim at first blush, it very much has more to it. Today, creator Dan Salvato announced via Twitter that he is planning to release some new Doki Doki content in the future.
This will be the year I reclaim my happiness so I can deliver it to others! My goal is to fully return to doing things I enjoy, such as making games. First releasing new DDLC content (not a sequel), then blowing the dust off my next original VN which has been on hold for 2 years.

As you can see from the tweet, this is not a Doki Doki sequel. That makes it a little harder to pin down exactly what the update could include. After all, with the game being almost completely narrative-focused, it’s not like he can just add new modes or anything. One possibility is the addition of a new prologue or epilogue. Heck, even a side story would be neat. And, of course, there was that fan mod that incorporated some player choice into the game. Maybe this addition is a riff on that.
All that said, I would love for Salvato to just drop it without really saying much. Discovering the story of DDLC was one of the best parts of the game and a stealth drop would help do the same with this update. Salvato also mentions a new visual novel he’s working on at the end of his Tweet. Color me intrigued for whatever he puts out next.
Doki Doki Literature Club is available now on Linux, Mac, and PC. I (and most of the internet) would highly recommend you check it out.
