Disco Elysium Nintendo Switch Port Confirmed to Be in Development

The excellent Disco Elysium absolutely cleaned up at last week’s BAFTA awards. The game scored a trifecta, picking up Debut Game, Best Music, and Best Narrative. Following the show, art director Aleksander Rostov and narrative lead Helen Hindpere sat down with the BBC for an interview. They mostly stuck to the BAFTAs, but the duo did drop a juicy news tidbit. Rostov joked that the interview was actually interrupting his work on the previously unannounced Nintendo Switch port.

Rostov seemed to be mostly joking about the timing of the interview but did say it was “interrupting (him) from writing up design documentation for the user interface and input systems for the Switch port”. We’ve known for a while now that Disco Elysium is coming to PS4 and Xbox One; however, this is the first we’re hearing about a Switch version. Given how in-depth the narrative is, it will be a welcome development for many fans. Having the option to play the game on-the-go will make playing through the game multiple times a much more enticing prospect.

And, it doesn’t sound like we’ll be waiting too long. Hindpere said soon after that “it’s going to happen soon”. Personally, I think that points to the Switch port happening around the same time as the PS4 and Xbox One versions. That would be another great development for fans, as they won’t have to wait longer if they’d prefer the Switch version.

Disco Elysium is available now on PC. As mentioned above, the team plans to have it on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in 2020. The full interview with the BBC is well worth a listen if you have the time.
