Today, developer Codemasters revealed a slew of new details for Career Mode in its upcoming racing game Dirt 5. This includes its story, which features voice work from Troy Baker and Nolan North.
Yes, you read that right. Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Death Stranding, Mortal Kombat 11) and Nolan North (Uncharted series, Avengers, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order) are lending their voices to a couple of racers that will help tell Dirt 5‘s story. Baker will voice Alex Janiček (also known as AJ), a fan favorite superstar in the game’s universe, who teaches your character the ropes. North voices Bruno Durand, a hyper-competitive veteran racer who has won a few championships of his own.
This story between you, Bruno, and AJ will be told by James Pumphrey and Nolan Sykes in the form of the Dirt Podcast by Donut Media. It will feature guests such as AJ and Brun, Jamie Chadwick, and SLAPTrain. You can check out a little preview below in the tweet.

The Career Mode is split into five chapters. Each chapter will include multiple paths to choose from, allowing you to pick which events you want to partake in. You can still complete every race, which includes a total of 130 events featuring 9 different race types and every location available in Dirt 5.
As you complete these races, you will earn Stamps; the higher you place, the more Stamps you earn. Each chapter includes a Main Event, which is unlocked with your stamps. Additionally, you can complete objectives to unlock Throwdowns, which pins you against another racer in a one-on-one event.
As you progress through the Career Mode, you will be able to garner sponsors. There are 20 real-world brands you can be sponsored by, including Monster Energy, Sparco, Michelin, Fatlace, and Codemasters. Each one of these sponsors will have exclusive rewards, including a unique livery, stickers, and a currency signing bonus. They will also have long and short-term objectives which will increase your Reputation Rank.
You can switch between sponsors any time you want. However, you may not get too many rewards when leaving a sponsor early. This is especially true if you don’t stay within your minimum race contract.
Dirt 5 will also feature split-screen multiplayer in its Career mode. Yes, you can bring up to four players with you as you progress through your career. In races that feature multiple racers, your friends will take the place of an AI driver.
While it seems this may be a detriment to a player’s career, it isn’t. The highest finishing racer between you and your friends is the one counted for the career. While the host player will reap all the rewards, the friends that help out will earn XP and currency to their accounts, which carries over to their career.
Dirt 5 will launch on Xbox Series X, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC in October 2020. It is slated to launch for Google Stadia sometime in early 2020.
