Digimon Survive‘s Producer Kazumasa Habu tweeted today that Digimon Survive is still in development, and more news on the game will be coming a bit before or during summer. Kazumasa Habu was answering anxious fans on Twitter, wondering what happened to Digimon Survive. Many fans are awaiting the game, and development updates from Bandai Namco have been scarce ever since the game was announced in July 2018.
Digimon Survive is a tactical RPG with survival elements and an overall darker tone than most Digimon works. The game’s story follows a male protagonist named Takuma and his classmates Minoru and Aoi as they get transported to another dimension where Digimon and danger lurks. Takuma will also meet other characters. Digimon Survive‘s story will ask players to make many different choices, deciding the fates of each character. You can watch Digimon Survive‘s sole trailer here and read more about its story in a previous post. Some gameplay was revealed during a live stream as well.
Kazumasa Habu was the producer of multiple Digimon games, such as Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and its follow-up Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory. Digimon Survive’s character designer is Uichi Ukumo, and it’s their first gig as a game character designer. The music is composed by Tomoki Miyoshi, who previously worked on SoulCalibur V and I Am Setsuna.
For now, Digimon Survive is scheduled to release in 2019 on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
Update: One event where we could hear more information on Digimon Survive is Digifes 2019 on July 28. The July 2019 issue of V-Jump magazine, releasing on May 21, 2019, will also have new information regarding the Digimon franchise. I think it’ll be related to the anime adaptations or another part of the franchise than Digimon Survive though. Usually, information from the magazine leaks around a week before release, so we’ll know then.
