Brad Venable, a prolific videogame and anime voice actor who played V’s familiar Griffon in Devil May Cry 5, recently passed away. Following his wife’s permission family, friends, and other members of the voice acting community made the new public on January 8th with tributes and personal memories:

Venable not only played in Devil May Cry 5, but also had roles in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Wars, the recent Demon’s Souls remake, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Astral Chain, Serious Sam 4, and Final Fantasy VII Remake. In anime, he played Daz in the English dub of Attack on Titan, and played roles in My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter, and Dragon Ball Super.

He was 43 at the time of his passing and no cause of death has been released as of this writing.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition dropped digitally on November 10th for Xbox Series X and November 12th on PS5. The physical version released on December 1st. Players will also have the option to turn up the difficulty with Legendary Dark Knight mode. This new horde mode will give even the most hardened devil hunter a run for their money. Players can also enable Turbo mode, which makes the whole game play at 1.2x speed, upping the on-screen insanity.

Of course, alongside the new content are several visual and technical improvements for PS5 and Xbox Series X. DMC5SE features ray-tracing support on the new consoles (except on Series S) and has greatly increased frame rates. There’s also the huge improvement both consoles have made to loading times via their SSDs. Read our review of the title to see just how well this new version stakes up.

Back in February of last year, nearly one year after launching, Devil May Cry 5 was already the best-selling game in the series’ history, according to Capcom. This information was released through Capcom’s official website where the total number of copies of Devil May Cry 5 that have been sold was stated at the time to be 3.1 million. This just slightly surpassed that of Devil May Cry 4, which currently sits right at 3.0 million.
