The Detective Pikachu trailers that have been put out before the film’s release have differed in both tone and the channel they were on. The official Warner Bros. YouTube channel releases the more standard trailers for the film while Ryan Reynolds uses his personal channel for the more unique, and usually funny, videos promoting Detective Pikachu.
Today, yet another Detective Pikachu video was released on Ryan Reynolds YouTube channel. Instead of the more comedic tone previous videos like “Becoming Pikachu“ and “Casting Detective Pikachu“, the latest video leans more into being melodramatic. The trailer highlights some of the film’s more wondrous and atmospheric shots of the Pokemon world as well as some emotional scenes starring Justice Smith’s Tim Goodman and Ryan Reynolds’ Detective Pikachu.
It is all fittingly set to Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World“, which led to the video’s title “What a Pikachu World.” Obviously, the title, song choice, and description that reads “I’m not crying, you’re crying…” end up looping things back around to being funny, but this trailer still does highlight some of the film’s great looking environments, Pokemon, and emotional moments.
You can check out this latest Detective Pikachu video below. Detective Pikachu hits theaters in the United States on May 10, 2019. That being said, the game it is based on is currently available for 3DS and can be picked up on Amazon.
