The 20th edition of the Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) are coming up quickly and as of today, we now know which games from the past year are in line to earn top honors at the event.
GDC released the full list of nominees for the awards show today and most of the games that are in line to take home some hardware aren’t too surprising. Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding ended up leading the pack in terms of nominations and is up for awards in seven different categories, including Best Audio, Best Design, the Innovation Award, Best Narrative Game, Best Technology, Best Visual Art, and Game of the Year. Other leading nominees include Outer Wilds and Control, both of which received five nominations each. These three aforementioned titles along with Untitled Goose Game and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice make up the slate of games that are up for the GDCA’s biggest award, Game of the Year.
If you’re unfamiliar with the GDCA, it’s the annual award show where the nominees and winners are chosen an organization made up of game creators from across the video game industry. While the event takes place a few months into 2020, only games released in the previous calendar year can be considered for awards. Additionally, and as you might expect, the GDC Awards coincide with the Game Developers Conference (GDC) proper.
You can check out the full list of nominees down below. As for the GDC Awards themselves, the event is set to take place later this year on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 6:30pm PST. As for GDC 2020, it’s set to occur in San Francisco from March 16 through the 20th.
