Dead Cells, one of the best roguelikes of the past generation looks to be getting new content for players to enjoy for the foreseeable future. Developer Motion Twin recently announced on Steam that the game will be receiving a second paid expansion titled “Fatal Falls” sometime in early 2021 for all platforms (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC). Alongside other free updates throughout its life cycle, Dead Cells got its first paid expansion “The Bad Seed” released in February of this year.
The new expansion will feature two new areas called Fractured Shrines and The Undying Shores which will serve as alternate routes that players can take during the 3rd section of the game instead of the Stilt Village, Clock Tower, and Time Keeper boss. Fatal Falls will also include new weapons, enemies, and a new boss as well.
The team announced alongside Fatal Falls that Dead Cells has reached 3.5 million copies sold, thanking their fans for the support. After making a statement last year on the future of the game, Motion Twin restated that there is content planned to at least the end of 2021 that is being done by Evil Empire, the development team who’s been working on Dead Cells while Motion Twin works on their new game. But not only that, they say that there’s “more in our heads” when it comes to DLC content than what is already coming.
The Fatal Falls expansion will release next year for $4.99. Motion Twin explains that the cost of the DLC will not only help with the continuation of free updates in the future but also for the development of their next title.
Those who own the Steam version of Dead Cells can wishlist the Fatal Falls expansion right now. For those that want to get in on the action, Dead Cells – Action Game of the Year is available on Amazon for both PS4 and Switch that includes the game’s first expansion Rise of the Giant. Dead Cells is also available to download for free through Xbox Game Pass.
