Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time only just this past week came to PS4 and Xbox One, but based on a new listing, it seems as though Activision’s latest entry in the long-running platformer series could be coming elsewhere in the near future.
Spotted over on the ESRB website, Crash Bandicoot 4 has now been rated for release on the Xbox Series X. The listing doesn’t say anything specific about when the game might arrive or what it would boast that is different from the current-gen versions of the title, but this is the first indication we’ve seen that Activision could be looking to bring Crash to next-gen. Assuming this rating is real (which there is a high likelihood of), a PS5 iteration wouldn’t be out of the question, either.
The biggest question based on this listing, however, comes with whether or not a dedicated release of Crash Bandicoot 4 could be in the cards, or if this listing is merely for an “optimized” version of the game for Xbox Series X. However, when searching on the ESRB’s website, some previously announced games that are said to be optimized for the XSX, including Cyberpunk 2077, don’t have their own separate game listings like this one for Crash 4 does. As such, next-gen-specific installments could very well be coming.
Considering how close Crash Bandicoot 4 has released in proximity to both the PS5 and Xbox Series X, it shouldn’t be a surprise whatsoever that next-gen versions may very well be on their way. Then again, until we hear anything directly from Activision or Toys for Bob related to these new editions, don’t get too excited just yet.
As for our own thoughts on Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, stay tuned in the coming days as our review should be hitting the site soon.
