Yesterday, DualShockers informed you that upcoming Microsoft exclusive Crackdown 3 received a name change to Crackdown 3: New Providence on the Xbox Italy Store page. Today, hours before X018’s Inside Xbox presentation is set to begin, the game also saw a name change on the the North American Microsoft Store as well, this time to Crackdown 3: Campaign.
This new title obviously seems to suggest that the game’s destructive single-player campaign has been separated from the previously announced multiplayer element of the game. Considering we haven’t heard about multiplayer in years, this isn’t very surprising, but also leaves that portion’s release date and overall fate up in the air.
That being said, the store page still hasn’t been edited to remove references to Crackdown 3’s multiplayer elements, which makes the situation somewhat more confusing. Microsoft’s lack of transparency when it comes to this title has been very frustrating to those of us looking forward to Crackdown 3, but hopefully this information drought will end today with X018.
Crackdown 3 is set to be playable at X018 this weekend and will make an appearance during today’s Inside Xbox presentation, so we’ll likely be hearing more about what exactly Crackdown 3: Campaign entails later today. Of course, you can stick to DualShockers for full coverage of X018 this weekend.
At this time, Crackdown 3, now listed as Crackdown 3: Campaign, is still supposed to arrive sometime next February for PC and Xbox One. The full game can still be pre-ordered on Amazon, though you may want to wait to learn more about this campaign and multiplayer schism.
